Summer School on Digitalization and Sustainability

Digitalization for Sustainability – Sustainable Digitalization: Join the Hohenheim Summer School from June 15 - July 6

Individuals, Organizations, and Societies in the Twin Transformation

Based on an interdisciplinary lecture program, the UHOH Summer School 2025 will provide insights into the newest research on the twin transformation. Thereby, participants will be able to develop and discuss their own thoughts on issues regarding the transformation towards a digital and sustainable future on an individual, organizational and societal level.

The so-called "twin transformation" refers to the current trends of digitalization and sustainability, whose interplay is complex, dynamic, and potentially ambivalent. While digitalization can support sustainability goals—such as resource conservation and preservation—by enabling efficiency gains and smarter resource use, it also relies on high resource consumption and may trigger rebound effects. Individuals, organizations, and societies are both targets and drivers of the twin transformation. Therefore, investigating this transformation requires understanding not only its internal harmonies and contradictions but also its interconnectedness with individual, organizational, and societal demands and activities.
