The City
Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey with a population of approx. 16 million inhabitants. It is considered the country's economic, cultural and historic capital. Being located on the Bosphorus Strait it encompasses the natural harbor known as the Golden Horn. It extends both on the Europe (Thrace) and on the Asia (Anatolia) side of the Bosphorus and is the only metropolis in the world that is situated on two continents. Istanbul is primarily known for its Byzantine and Ottoman architecture. Despite its development as a Turkish city since 1923, it contains many ancient, Roman, Byzantine, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish monuments.
As a cosmopolitan metropolis with numerous museums, religious sites, parks, beaches, markets and shopping malls Istanbul offers countless leisure activities.
The University
Sabancı University (Turkish: Sabancı Üniversitesi) was established in 1996 and is located on a 1.26 million squaremeter campus which is about 40 km from Istanbul's city center. It is home to 3 Faculties including 13 undergraduate and 46 postgraduate as well as 15 doctoral programs. Sabanci University is ranked among Turkey's top universities.
