Am I allowed to use the image at all? Under what conditions? Am I also allowed to edit it? Basically, every image is protected by copyright law (UrhG) and therefore may not be used arbitrarily. The image may only be used under the respective conditions of use if an appropriate license or the consent of the copyright holder(s) is available. The Knowledge Transfer Center West has created a red thread on the topic of image rights that will help you evaluate your images and provide tips for free image material: >> Der rote Faden.pdf (German) INNOVATION AND INITIATIVE Metaverse and Higher Education The metaverse is a word combination of "meta" (beyond) and "verse" (universe) and is understood as a digital space in which augmented reality (XR) is used. Through the use of augmented (AR) and virtual reality (VR), the metaverse offers the potential to become a new learning and experiential space. Using a virtual version of ourselves, we move through digital space as an avatar, meeting and interacting with other people. What sounds like science fiction could be a new way to complete simulated lab exercises, recreate construction projects or take a virtual field trip with your own avatar. What is special about the Metaverse is the focus on social interaction and the feeling of being able to be part of this "new world" yourself. In the following video you will get an overview how Metaverse coulde look like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6VsxcVpBVY LEARNING AND COMMUNITY CORNER  Community Corner on Teach Online  On the Teach Online site, the support site for (online) teaching, a Community Corner is now available to you. DIDAKTICS & TEACHING Tips for making grading less painful For many of you, the end of the semester is in sight—or at least it would be if you didn’t face a huge pile of exams and papers to grade. Grading season can be a slog—we’re sharing tips to make the process less painful. 1. Allow enough time to complete the grading of exams in smaller chunks.2. Set a goal for yourself, e.g. grade 10 papers a day and then give yourself permission to do something else.3. Use rubrics to ensure that you are grading consistently and transparently. Further techniques are presented on the following pages: "Grading Strategies" from Western University’s Centre for Teaching and Learning "Tips on Grading Efficiently" from Berkeley University’s Teaching and Resource Center „How to Grade Faster in 2020" by Deborah J. Cohan, published in Inside Higher Ed Good luck, and let us know, what grading hacks work best for you? INNOVATION & INITIATIVE EDTECH Austria Webinar with Lyuba Stafyeyeva, MA on Remote Proctoring Innovationsservice Salzburg together with EDTECH Austria organised a webinar on "Remote Proctoring: Dos and Dont's". Our colleague Lyuba Stafyeyeva, MA, took part and presented basic approaches, considerations and challenges in online proctoring of exams from a university perspective. The webinar was an exciting exchange, as the topic was examined from different perspectives: - Insights from international solution providers for remote proctoring- The perspective of users such as universities- Student perspective- Legal perspective Here (partly in German) are the presentation slides of the individual presentations from the webinar for review. Conclusion of the webinar from the MCI's point of view: Good proctoring is good proctoring, whether online or in person. So let's not be fooled: Guide to compressing videos We would like to inform you about a new guide on how to compress files. Some of you may have been confronted with large video files from recorded MCI webinars® or other files to share with your students via Sakai. It is possible to quickly exceed the maximum upoad limit of 150 MB or the total storage limit of 1 GB in a course site. To help you find a quick solution, we have created a short guide for the HandBrake software. The software is used to compress or shrink files and allows you to share your files with students in Sakai without much quality reduction.  The guide is available for you on our internal Sharepoint in the Media Productions section, on the Teach Online site and here as direct link. With this in mind - Let's compress!   If you have other questions regarding your teaching, we are always here for you! Your Learning Solutions Team.

Please note that when using external tools (i.e. tools that are not developed, centrally supported or hosted by MCI), you have to consider how to handle students’ personal data if it is transmitted in any way to outside systems or tools. In some cases, it may be necessary to inform students, or even seek their consent.
