International Language Certificates

Even where evidence of language skills is provided in the form of university certificates or degrees, the varying standards in content and grading applied worldwide often make it difficult for potential employers to interpret the documents presented. Many universities, too, now ask for internationally recognized language certificates like TOEFL or IELTS before accepting applicants for enrollment or a semester abroad. For that reason, internationally recognized certificates of language competence issued by external examination boards constitute a competitive advantage on the employment market and at universities.

In the normal case, such certificates are issued to candidates who have passed standardized examinations lasting several hours. The examination and assessment procedures are based on globally recognized regulations and standards like the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF). The results are then easily interpreted and generally accepted.

To select the best language certificate for your personal needs, ask yourself the following questions:

For which language do I require a certificate?
For which market do I need the certificate?
How long does it take to prepare for such a certificate?
Where is the nearest examination center?
How high will the total cost be?
How long is such a certificate valid?

Cambridge Certificates - Business English (BEC)
The Cambridge BEC Certificates are a test of competence and language skills for international business. The focus is therefore on Business English. BEC certificates are valid for an unlimited period. The various parts of the exam are designed to test written and oral competence and listening and reading comprehension.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
An internationally recognized language certificate for work and study. Many universities require applicants for enrollment or a semester abroad to present an IELTS certificate as proof of their language skills. The focus is accordingly on Academic English. IELTS certificates are normally valid for two years. The various parts of the exams are designed to test written and oral competence and listening and reading comprehension.

Currently the MCI is not offering preparation courses for these two Spanish certificates.

DELE and SIELE certificates are the only form of official certification for Spanish language skills. They are recognized by both employers and universities. The various parts of the exam are designed to test written and oral competence and listening and reading comprehension.
