Climate justice in Austria

Our aim is not only to raise awareness of climate justice, but also to sensitise citizens to this issue.

THE CHALLENGE
There is a lack of awareness of climate justice among citizens, which is reflected in the fact that both citizens and mayors participate very little in the Climate Alliance's programmes. In addition, citizens often prioritise their own utilitarian thinking.

OUTCOMES
For Klimabündnis understanding the perspective of community workers is of a great importance, as they book offers on the topic of climate justice and can serve as multipliers in the community. Focus groups in various municipalities offer the opportunity to adopt this perspective. A focus group conducted in the Alpbachtal region highlights various fields of action. For example, simplifying the website and communication will make it easier for municipalities to book and advertise offers. Offers should be designed to be as interactive as possible, and lectures and exhibitions should be integrated into a framework. Informing municipal employees about Klimabündnis offerings for municipalities, schools and businesses, as well as other climate protection programmes, can facilitate promising collaborations.
