All students undergo the same online application and admission procedure. Applications are continuously accepted. We recommend early applications due to the long visa procedures, which may take up to three months or more.

Contract of Study
Upon admission you will be sent the contract of study by your study program. The contract of study entails the rights and duties of our students and our institution. To accept the offer of admission, you’re expected to sign and duly return it within two weeks.

Supporting Documentation

International students may have to certify their documents as specific regulations apply as regards the translation and certification of relevant documents. The regulations in view of the documents vary with regard to the country of issue. All documents must be handed in in the original language as well as in German or English.

International applicants are required to submit the same documents as Austrian candidates. There are, however, specific regulations with regard to the translation and certification of relevant documents.

The application documents have to be handed in both in the original language as well as in German or English. Documents issued by a country other than Austria additionally need to be certified. The specific rules to be observed in this context vary with the country of issue:

Certification	All relevant documents issued by the countries listed above need legalization of documents in the form of an Apostille. The Apostille is issued by competent authorities in the contracting country. The diplomatic representation of a foreign country in Austria is under no circumstances authorized to do it. A list of responsible authorities in each respective contracting country can be found on the homepage of the HCCH (Hague conference on Private International Law). The Apostille has to be placed on the original document itself or on an allonge and certifies, thereby, the authenticity of the signature, the function of the person who has signed the document, and where appropriate, the originality of the seal or stamp on the document. The contracting country determines which documents are considered to be public or private respectively. The Apostille only applies to public documents. In the case of private documents, they have to be certified by, for example, the responsible educational authority or a notary in order to be recognized as a public document, subsequently, the document has to be attested by the Apostille.
Translation	All relevant documents required for the application process that are not in German or English, have to be translated. The translation has to be conducted by a sworn and officially certified translator in the respective country or in Austria. The translation must be attached to the original document or to a legalized copy of it. All required stamps of legalization must be translated too.

Certification	The countries listed above have concluded a bilateral agreement with Austria in regard to exemption from legalization. Consequently, none of the required documents that are relevant for the application process need legalization. The bilateral agreement is also valid for those documents that have been issued in the relevant country prior to the day the agreement came into force.
Translation	All relevant documents required for the application process that are not in German or English, have to be translated. The translation has to be conducted by a sworn and officially certified translator in the respective country or in Austria. The translation must be attached to the original document or to a legalized copy of it. All required stamps of legalization must be translated too.

Certification	All relevant documents issued by the countries listed above need full diplomatic legalization, since these countries do not have any agreements with Austria. The legalization has to be placed on the original document. The documents first have to pass the internal legalization procedure within the country in which they have been issued (this procedure is different in each country but the last authority definitely has to be the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the respective country) and then the documents have to be attested by the responsible Austrian authority in the respective country.

English Requirements

We desire a high level of English language proficiency for sucess in our study programs. We expect evidence of adequate English facility for admission.

TOEFL iBT: minimum score 90 from a single test date.
IELTS or I ELTS Online: minimum overall band score 6.5 (academic module).
Oxford Test of English: 120 in all 4 skills.
Cambridge English Business Higher (BEC Higher): A/B in all four skills
Cambridge English Advanced (CAE): A/B in all four skills; alternatively, students may submit a CPE exam result
PTE Academic: (PTE): minimum overall score 65

When you wish to apply for a German study program, please refer directly to the respective study program for German language requirements.

Visa/Registration on arrival

If you are a non-EU national, you should apply for your visa i.e. “Residence Permit – Student“ as soon as you have been accepted and secured your place at MCI by paying your tuition fees. The visa procedure in general takes three months or more.

You should observe the visa regulations for acquiring the legal status as an international student.
You should abide by all regulations related to the official registration of your Austrian residence on arrival.

Academic Calendar

Two semester constitute an academic year. Our academic calendar varies from study program to study program. So, look up the dates on the website of your selected study program. You are expected to arrive a bit earlier so that you can participate in our orientation program.

Route Planer

By plane:
The three big international airports near Innsbruck are Munich, Frankfurt, and Vienna.
Flying into Innsbruck is the fastest way to get here, but it might also be the most expensive. Innsbruck airport is very close to the city center. Bus F brings you directly to the city center in approx. 10-15 minutes.

By train:
Innsbruck is also easily accessible by train. The main station is about 10 mins. from the city center. For more information visit the website of the Austrian Railways company ÖBB. Frequent train services are also available from Vienna and Munich airport.

By bus:
Flixbus from all over Europe or the airport shuttle Four Seasons Travel from Munich airport.

Frequently asked questions

Which documents are required for the online admission?

Cover letter, CV, passport copy, passport photo, school leaving certificate, university degree and transcripts (for master’s applications), work experience (if applicable). For details check: www.mci.edu/en/study/application-and-admission

Must my documents be legalized when I apply for admission?

No, you are expected to show your legalized documents by the end of your first semester. However, the legalization process of your country may take long, thus, we request you to start the process as soon as you have secured a place in the selected study program.

Will I receive a discount for early payment?

No discount is offered for early payment. Students are expected to pay their tuitions in time in order to obtain access to all classes, coursework, etc.

Can I pay my fees in installments?

Students are expected to pay their full tuition fee for the academic year, when granted admission. However, exceptions are made on a case to case basis enabling students to pay at the beginning of each semester.

What is the refund procedure?

If you have paid your tuition fees and decide not to join, you can apply for a refund. Your tuition fees will be refunded minus administrative fees.

Can I defer my studies?

Yes, you can go for deferral. In that case your tuition fees will either be refunded minus administrative charges or your fees will be automatically carried forward to the following academic year. You will not have to go through the entire admission process again.

Are scholarships available for international degree-seeking students?

Yes, you can apply e.g. for the MCI Global Scholarship (25% discount) and many more during your application process. Merit based scholarships (50% discount) are available from second year onwards.

When do I apply for my visa?

We request you to apply for your visa as soon as you’ve paid your tuition fees and have secured a place in the selected study program because the visa process for a student visa with Residence Permit D takes on three months on an average.

What kind of insurance coverage would you recommend?

It is always important to ask the Embassy first for recommendations. We generally recommend feelsafe. www.feelsafe.at

Does MCI - The Entrepreneurial School® offer housing services?

We do not have any dorms but support you in the accommodation process. More details on accommodation can be found at www.mci4me.at/en/student-life/student-life/student-life-accommodation

How much money would I need per month?

You should roughly calculate 1,000 – 1,300 EUR per month.

Are there any other university expenses that I need to calculate?

You will have to come up for books, exercusions etc. prescribed by the university. This may be around €20-40 per semester. Also, the Austrian Student Association fee of around €25 must be covered by each student every semester.

Would MCI - The Entrepreneurial School® arrange for support on arrival?

Yes, you will be assigned a buddy who you should connect with before your arrival in Innsbruck. Buddies are MCI students, who assist you with all your administrative work such as registration on arrival, bank account, student residence permit etc.

Can I work alongside my studies?

Yes, you are allowed to work 20 hours per week alongside your studies.

Can I work after my studies?

Yes, you have to apply for your visa extension for work after your studies. In general a twelve-month extension is granted for employment search.

Is German knowledge mandatory if I want to study in an English-taught program?

German knowledge is not compulsory but recommended. We offer German language courses at a highly subsidised rate and you can learn German alongside your studies.

Can I pick and choose courses from my study program or from other study programs?

No, the courses are set for each semester. You are expected to attend all these courses. Unless exempted by the Head of the Studies all the courses must be successfully completed.

On which campus do I study?

MCI has 5 campus locations. Your classes are predominantly held on locations depending on the study program you’ve joined. Engineering classes are generally held at MCI IV; Tourism classes at MCI III, and other business and social science programs hold their classes at MCI I or II.

How are my grades calculated? (grading system)

Grades range from 1 to 5; 1 is excellent and 5 is a fail

Grade 1: excellent (90% and more)
Grade 2: good (between 80% and 89%)
Grade 3: satisfactory (between 70% and 79%)
Grade 4: pass (between 60% and 69%)
Grade 5: Fail (less than 60%)

When are final exams held?

Your final exam for each course may be held during the semester i.e. immediately after the course has taken place or at the end of the semester. Exams (first attempt) take place during the regular semester; retake exams are scheduled after the regular semester dates. So, plan all your travels after the official end of the semester.

Am I allowed to retake an exam?

Twice. Retake exams are often scheduled after the end of the official semester. You can only retake an exam if you have failed in your first attempt.
