Im MCI-Philosophicum 2025 wird das Thema Sicherheit aus verschiedenen Perspektiven eingehend beleuchtet. Dabei stehen die gefühlte, zivile, wirtschaftliche und militärische Sicherheit der österreichischen Bevölkerung im Mittelpunkt. In einer Zeit, in der aktuelle Bedrohungen wie Terrorismus und Kriminalität das Sicherheitsgefühl stark beeinflussen, werden Fragen zur Wahrnehmung von Bedrohungen und der Realität der Kriminalitätsentwicklung diskutiert.

Die Veranstaltung wird in Form einer Fishbowl-Diskussionsrunde durchgeführt, die allen Teilnehmenden eine barrierefreie Teilnahme an der Diskussion ermöglicht.

Die Kläranlage Innsbruck gehört zu den fortschrittlichsten Kläranlagen in Europa und beherbergt neben den Anlagen zur Abwasserreinigung auch innovative Anlagen zur Klärschlammbehandlung und Faulgasverwertung. Die Anlage ist in der Lage, ihren hohen Strombedarf zu mehr als der Hälfte durch Eigenstromerzeugung aus Faulgas selbst zu decken. Zur Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie der Kläranlage gehört auch eine Bioabfallaufbereitungsanlage, die Bioabfälle nutzt, um die Gasproduktion in den Faultürmen zu erhöhen. Doch auch die Abwärme der Stromerzeugung mittels Gasmotoren wird zur Einspeisung in das Fernwärmenetz genützt und so versorgt die Kläranlage das Hallenbad O-Dorf und das Restaurant am Baggersee mit Wärme. Da Anlagenbereiche laufend erneuert oder erweitert werden, ist die Kläranlage immer technologisch am Zahn der Zeit.

Throughout the course, students will explain how consumers perceive sustainability differently. They will identify greenwashing and list KPIs to assess the trustworthiness of sustainable marketing campaigns. Additionally, they will apply food waste reduction strategies to real-world situations. Finally, students will categorize sustainable labels and critically discuss their value in specific shopping scenarios.

Building Bridges in Stormy Times - The Role of European University Alliances. The European University Alliance Ulysseus is an example of the responsibility of universities to promote international cooperation and strengthen social cohesion. The lecture sheds light on historical precursors such as the University Center in Dubrovnik during the Cold War and discusses current investments in transnational education networks as a contribution to a resilient and sustainable future for Europe.

The course provides an overview of various health concepts and their development - from the WHO constitution of 1946 to current approaches such as One Health and Planetary Health. Students learn about key terms and strategies, including public health, global health, universal health coverage and primary health care. A special focus is placed on the challenges of today, the explanation of the term “polycrisis” and the role of environmental factors for health. Participants also reflect on the importance of planetary health and its influence on well-being. They will engage with key players in the healthcare system and develop an understanding of their decision-making processes and strategic considerations.

Note: This is a master's level course. Previous knowledge is an advantage.

Led by Julia Vögele (Doctoral Researcher at MCI) and Stephanie Raible (Associate Professor at University of Delaware, award-winning author and educator, and Fulbright Visiting Scholar at MCI), this session invites female entrepreneurs to explore their visions for the future. Participants will exchange experiences, identify opportunities, and co-create ideas for their entrepreneurial futures. This workshop is part of a research initiative aiming to foster female entrepreneurship and more equitable futures for all. No previous experience with entrepreneurship is necessary.

Junge Menschen haben viele Fragen: Was will ich werden? Wie geht es weiter mit dem Klima? Gelingt eine Mobilitätswende? „Expedition Zukünfte“ gibt Jugendlichen im Alter von ca. 14 bis 18 Jahren Gelegenheit, diese und andere Fragen gemeinsam anzugehen. Dadurch sollen ihre Selbstwirksamkeit und Resilienz gefördert, Zukunftsängste abgebaut und neue Handlungsoptionen für die eigenen Zukünfte entwickelt werden. Zudem wird ein Beitrag zur Demokratiebildung geleistet, da gemeinsam über Zukunftsvorstellungen gesprochen wird.

Auf diesen Expeditionen erkunden die Teilnehmenden zunächst miteinander ihre eigenen Erwartungen und Wünsche zum Thema. Im Anschluss stärken sie ihre Vorstellungskraft und Kreativität, indem sie in eine alternative, ungewohnte Zukunft eintauchen. In die Gegenwart bringen sie kraftvolle neue Fragen und konkrete Handlungsoptionen für sich und andere mit.

Bei der Climate Action Simulation schlüpfen die Schüler:innen in die Rolle von unterschiedlichen Interessengruppen bei den Klimaverhandlungen der Vereinten Nationen und verhandeln miteinander. Interessengruppen sind beispielsweise Regierungen, Industrie & Handel, Klimaaktivist:innen, Land- und Forstwirtschaft usw. Das Ziel ist es, dass die Erderwärmung bis 2100 weit unter 2°C bleibt. Dafür müssen die Schüler:innen innerhalb ihrer Gruppe eine Übereinstimmung zu Klimaschutzmaßnahmen finden. Im nächsten Schritt verhandeln die Gruppen miteinander. Das spannende bei der Verhandlung ist, dass wir die Ergebnisse sofort mit einem Computerprogramm überprüfen können.

The short films, created as part of the project "LYMAS – Life Strategies of Young Labour Migrants in Ageing Societies," offer personal insights into challenges and hopes—highlighting why sustainable societies must embrace integration and diversity. A unique feature: Our pedal-powered cinema makes the film night not only inspiring but also sustainable! The energy for the screening is generated by muscle power—so get pedaling and make a statement for a climate-friendly future! An inspiring evening in the spirit of the SDGs!

The film screening is planned as a bicycle cinema, where the electricity is generated by leg power.
