Careers in Voluntary Work

The lack of young people in the Vincentian communities is a challenge for the umbrella organisation. Measures and concepts are to be developed to counteract this problem.

THE CHALLENGE
The existing chairpersons in the associations are forced to work longer than they would like. For this reason, research is to be conducted into how new young volunteers can be recruited for the boards of the Vincentian communities.

OUTCOMES
Using a mixed-methods approach consisting of literature research, questionnaires and interviews, recommendations for action and possible methods for promoting young people were developed for the Vincentian communities in Tyrol. It became apparent that the young members in the associations would like to see more modern structures. In addition, the time required, the constant availability and the long commitment to the association were mentioned as obstacles to taking on board activities. It was also found that the problem of young people is largely known in the association, but there is disagreement about who is responsible for generating young talent. Clear communication within the association as well as increased advertising and public relations work would be beneficial in order to promote the promotion of young people in the association. It is important to note that a general problem of recruitment within the Vincentian communities became clear and thus the fundamental problem was not worked on.
