Learning outcomes of the course unit
  • This module enables students to explore the ways in which emerging technologies are disrupting financial services industry. Within the module, students will get acquainted with the key technological trends in finance (including AI and machine learning, distributed ledger technology and cryptocurrencies, virtual and augmented reality). They will understand the processes being affected by these technologies (such as lending, payments, securities trading, risk management, financial advisory, and real estate), learn to critically examine FinTech-related issues through the lenses of various market participants – incumbents, entrepreneurs, investors and policy makers.

    • AI and analytics in financial services
    • Blockchain technologies and their application in finance
    • Digital currencies, cryptocurrencies and CBDCs
    • FinTech solutions (ex. lending, payments, risk management, securities trading, financial advisory, real estate)
    • InsurTech solutions and international cases
    • FinTech ecosystem, opportunities and challenges from entrepreneurial, incumbents' and policy making perspectives
    • Creating value through financial technology
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
  • The course comprises an interactive mix of lectures, discussions and individual and group work.
