TEACHING & LEARNING ENGAGE YOUR STUDENTS WITH THE MCI THROWABLE MICROPHONE Engagement and active participation improves every lecture and knowledge sharing. However, this is easier said than done, especially with large-scale groups. With the MCI throwable microphone, you can activate students by simply throwing the dice. Everyone gets to participate in the discussion and simultaneously, develop their argumentation and communication skills. You can keep the discussion up to date and react spontaneously to the questions and comments. Contact us at learningsolutions@mci.edu  or just drop by if you want to borrow the throwable microphone for your lecture!    IS YOUR SAKAI WEBSITE READY FOR THE SEMESTER START? To help you design and develop a sound and attractive online course, we have developed a checklist as a quality assurance tool which will help you in self-evaluating your course. It will prompt you to reflect on what you have in your course, in what form, and what could be improved.   INNOVATION & INITIATIVE ADOBE CONNECT TROUBLESHOOTING Do you know the situation in the hectic pace just before the start of your webinar? To avoid such situations we highly recommend working with the checklist ‘Starting and ending a webinar’ when preparing for your webinar.   OUR "SHELODN" IN ACTION! One cannot plan everything. There always may appear an obstacle that makes it temporarily impossible for a student to physically attend a class (e.g. a long-term therapy/illness, physical frailty, longer stays abroad, etc.). However, we would like to respond as precisely as possible to the individual needs of every student and try to expand the concept of flexibility for each individual by using technologies. And here comes Sheldon in action! A demonstration of the technology you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0F_WKOkDm1I Our Double Roboter “Sheldon” allows us to explore new types of flexibility! It is currently being used to enable a student who has no opportunity to attend the classes due to prolonged therapy. Communication takes place in form of a video conference. The student can actively participate in the class, i.e. to ask and answer questions, interact with the group and follow the lecture. If you have a case, where Sheldon could assist you or your students, please contact the Learning Solutions! We will be happy to provide you with more information and support for your specific case.   Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions!Your Learning Solutions Team.

TEACHING & LEARNING   PRME: WORKSHOP REVIEW "RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT LEARNING AND EDUCATION (RMLE)" On 18th December Dr. Oliver Laasch, Assistant Professor of Strategy at the University of Nottingham Ningbo (China) and Head of the Center for Responsible Management Education held a full-day workshop on Responsible Management Learning & Education at the MCI. Dr. Laasch presented a series of models, concepts and resources that gave participants insight into the various facets of the topic. The feedback from participants was very positive and the resulting discussions and ideas will continue to occupy us. The slides of the event are available for downloaded here. Further resources for use in PRME-related courses can also be found on the “PRME Platform - SDGs in  teaching” of the PRME Chapter DACH (account creation required). PDF: Oliver Laasch Faculty Workshop Slides   PRME: REVIEW VIDEO CONTEST "STUDENT VOICES ON RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT EDUCATION" The winners of the video competition "Student Voices on Responsible Management Education" initiated by the MCI and organised with 5 partner universities from the PRME Chapter DACH were announced at the 5th PRME Research Conference in Cologne last November. The aim of the competition was to give students’ opinions and ideas a voice at the conference and to find out which strategies and methods they envisage for learning about responsible action and leadership as managers and experts at their university. With 80 students from 11 institutions on 4 continents participating, the contest was an international success. The winning team from the Fundação Instituto de Adminstração in Sao Paulo, who convinced the jury with their video "Let's make the difference", came all the way from Brazil to take part in the ceremony. The conference was also attended by two of the three runner-up teams, including an MCI team from Business Administration Online (Matteo Calzavara, Julian Marchant and David Manrique Suarez), whose video "Responsible Management Education Initiative" illustrates the consequences of ethical and unethical corporate behaviour for the future. Congratulations to all participants, runners-up, and winners. All submitted videos can be viewed on the #prme4us website. They can also be used as an introduction to the topic or as a basis for discussion. An interview with project leader Regina Obexer was published in „PRiMETime“.   ASSESSOR BEST PRACTICE Dear All, we are pleased to invite you to the workshop on "Assessors Best Practice / Assurance of Learning (AoL)"!   TEACHING & LEARNING DEFINING LEARNING GOALS IN HIGHER EDUCATION - WHAT IS IT THAT STUDENTS HAVE ACHIEVED BY THE END OF MY COURSE? In a recent discussion with a colleague, the topic of how we each plan our lectures came up. What I found notable is that we spent a lot of time comparing the content we each cover, but we started talking about the skills and competencies we want our students to develop and apply only at the end of the discussion. This reminded me that the change in perspective from teaching to learning is not something that comes to us as naturally as we sometimes assume, even though the “shift from teaching to learning” has been espoused for several decades (cf. Berendt 2002). When we consider what impact this change in perspective has on our teaching, however, it is understandable that we concentrate automatically on content first when thinking about teaching. As we start focussing on learning outcomes and goals, the following questions come up very quickly: How can I design meaningful learning paths which really put students in the centre of the learning process? The following document provides answers to all the question: Defining_Learning_Goals_ Bachelor and Master_2017_EN.pdf   INNOVATION & INITIATION POLL ANYWHERE: AUDIO RESPONSE SYSTEM     Today we would like to introduce a web-based survey tool, which helps you to design and setup surveys for your face-to-face and online classes.   TEACHING & LEARNING 1) VIDEO-BASED TEACHING AND LEARNING Video is becoming more and more popular on the web these days, so Videos are becoming increasingly important in higher education. On the initiative of Prof. Werner Stadlmayr and Sabrina Dumfort, MSc, we have created a video series consisting of 32 videos on the subject of 'Safety in the Lab', which hopefully will help students and teachers in their studies and in teaching. The Sakai site “Schlau und Sicher durchs Labor” is now available as a video library (only available in German!) and you can use the site in your own course. Find a short example video here. The videos are especially useful for flipped classroom models, for preparation and follow-up of contents concerning laboratory work, as well as preparation for exams, etc. You can find more ideas on video-based learning and teaching and how to design lessons on our Sakai Showroom site. If you would like to use the videos in your course, please send an email to learningsolutions@mci.edu we will then enroll you in the Sakai project library.   INNOVATION & INITIATION 1) PRIVACY POLICY We would like to refer you to the MCI Privacy Policy, which is anchored on the MCI.EDU website: https://www.mci.edu/en/privacy-policy. Wuv-Vortrag: „Traditionelle“ Werte in neuem Gewand?
Einige Forschungsschwerpunkte: Cultural Studies of Technoscience, Medien- und Techniktheorie, Surveillance- and Security Studies. Ihre neueste Publikation: Big Data-Kriege. Über Tötungslisten, Drohnen und die Politik der Datenbanken. In: C. Engemann, A. Sudmann (Hg.): Machine Learning –Medien, Infrastrukturen und Technologien der Künstlichen Intelligenz.
