Current information about the coronavirus

The corona virus (COVID-19) has been occupying the world community for weeks. In Tyrol, infections were detected on 25 February 2020 in two persons returning from Italy, who were immediately taken into quarantine and medical care, and fortunately showed only mild symptoms.

Since then, several hundred individuals (contact persons, persons from risk areas), have been tested for the virus in Tyrol, but to our knowledge no further infections have been detected, and we hope that this will continue to be the case.

We are in constant consultation with the responsible authorities, maintain a mutual exchange of information, and coordinate our response based on professional risk management practices.

Against this background, we request that the following regulations be observed:

  • Persons who have returned from a risk area designated by the WHO (currently Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Iran, Singapore, China and the Italian regions of Lombardy, Veneto, Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna) are required to reduce their social contacts as far as possible during the first 14 days after their return and not to attend courses or meetings with larger groups of people. If this applies to you, you will be asked to inform the head of your study program immediately and coordinate with him/her on how to proceed.

  • To prevent the spread of the Corona virus, the recommended hygiene measures should be followed:

    • Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water, following the relevant recommendations. In general, you do not need special disinfectants for this. However, the MCI will provide additional disinfectants (e.g. disinfectant wipes) as far as available.
    • Cover your mouth and nose with a bent elbow or handkerchief when coughing or sneezing. Throw away any used tissues immediately and wash your hands immediately.
    • Avoid close contact with persons who show relevant symptoms (breathing difficulties, coughing, sore throat, fever).
    • If you have such symptoms yourself (breathing difficulties, coughing, sore throat, fever) and see a possible connection with COVID-19, please call the 24-hour hotline 1450 (without area code from all networks) and provide them with the relevant information. Please DO NOT visit a doctor or hospital yourself, but follow the telephone instructions.
    • If you do not already have one, please ensure that your myMCI account is reliably linked to a mobile number that is constantly updated and that you have additional contact information (e-mail address, home address) where you can be reached at all times if necessary.
