THE CHALLENGE
This project was aimed at developing a proof of concept for the realisation of a “House of Grains” in Mals (South Tyrol) to re-invigorate the cultivation of grains in the Upper Venosta Valley by creating a space to experience and expose the history and future potential of grain farming in this region.
OUTCOMES
After in-depth research and analysis, the team of students identified comparable benchmark projects in Austria and conducted guided expert interviews with the responsible persons on selected topics, transcribed them and analysed them. The team then designed and organised a focus group workshop on-site in Mals with representatives of key stakeholder groups. Taking into account the information gained from literature and empirical research, the project team formulated the cornerstones of a marketing concept and concrete implementation recommendations. The results were presented to the mayor and journalists from Vinschgau in December 2018, at the end of their MCI course, and during a press conference in the town hall of Mals.

“The students were well prepared, professionally supported, and their very structured and enthusiastic approach has surprised us … Their presentation in the town hall of Mals, in front of the mayor, various stakeholders, and the press, was the ultimate proof of their excellent work and their very professional presentation. The foundational work carried out by MCI makes it possible to continue the project “House of Grains”. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed.” - Konrad Meßner, Project Manager, Kulturverein arcus raetiae
