THE CHALLENGE
The Social Road Map is a brochure published by the association unicum:mensch to provide orientation and assistance for people in financial and social need. This project aimed at transferring the brochure from a PDF document into an easy-to-use, accessible smartphone application. The aim was to identify the special needs of the target group, to explore, weigh up and specify possible solutions, and finally to implement a prototype application based on these aspects.
OUTCOMES
Students in the course “Practical Project Application Development” in the program Management, Communication & IT collected requirements and specifications in small groups according to industry best practice standards, and developed solutions for front- and backend under consideration of accessibility guidelines. Finally, our students were able to present and pitch their results in creative presentation videos to the jury in a virtual event.
In the coming semesters, the Department "Social Work" will carry out further acceptance tests and research optimizations based on these findings and prototypes, and will accompany the further implementation based on social science methods and concepts.

PARTNER STATEMENT
„The social route map aims to improve the accessibility of social support services according to the needs of the persons concerned. The students' deep involvement with the problem of accessibility in IT points the way to a digital future in which people who have difficulties with some digital aspects can also participate. Thank you very much for the detailed insights, the many different ideas and the numerous perspectives that the students contributed. We greatly appreciate this close cooperation between research and practice and are pleased about the added value on both sides.“ - Teresa Waas, Managing Director, unicum:mensch
"First of all I would like to thank Kristian Hasenjäger and his students. It was a great chance for us to get new ideas and views on the project. The presentation of the social route map in the course also showed us which aspects we as "clients" have to pay attention to. The students, still sceptical at the beginning, got involved in a new subject area and tried to empathize with the people who use the social route map. We followed the presentation of the results with great interest. There were some very interesting ideas and approaches, which were stimulating but also helpful for the further development of a digital version of the social route map. In summary, we can say that it was a successful cooperation. I am convinced that we all benefited from the mutual exchange! Thank you very much!" - Jenny Illing MA, Verein unicum:mensch
