The City
Uppsala is Sweden's fourth largest city and one of its oldest. Ever since the Viking Age it has been an important cultural centre. Uppsala is a rapidly growing city and is becoming increasingly integrated with the wider Stockholm region, Sweden's most dynamic growth region.
Alnarp is a village and university campus in Sweden lying between Lund and Malmö. In 1862, the existing Alnarp Castle was built to house a new school of agronomy, now part of the Alnarp campus of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. The park at Alnarp Castle is famous for its great diversity of tree species.
The University
The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) was founded in 1977 by merging mainly three existing separate colleges for veterinary medicine, forestry and agriculture. Its head office being located in Ultuna, Uppsala, the university has several campuses in different parts of Sweden. The main facilities are Alnarp in Lomma Municipality, Skara, and Umeå. The university has four faculties: Faculty of Landscape Planning, Horticulture and Agricultural Sciences, Faculty of Natural Resources and Agriculture Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science and Faculty of Forest Sciences.
SLU has a very high position in several international university rankings that are made around the world. According to the QS ranking SLU is ranked as the third best university in the subject Agriculture & Forestry.
