The City

Milan is the second-largest city in Italy and the capital of Lombardy. It has an approx. population of 1.35 million inhabitants. The massive suburban sprawl that followed the Italian economic miracle of 1950-60s and the growth of a vast commuter belt, suggest that socioeconomic linkages have expanded well beyond the boundaries of its administrative limits and its agglomeration, creating a metropolitan area of 7-9 million people. It has been suggested that the Milan metropolitan area is part of the so-called Blue Banana, the area of Europe with the highest population and industrial density.
Milan is the main industrial, commercial and financial centre of Italy and a leading global city. Its business district hosts the Italian Stock Exchange and the headquarters of the largest national banks and companies. The city is a major world fashion and design capital. Thanks to its important museums, theatres and landmarks Milan attracts more than two million annual visitors.

The University

The Politecnico di Milano is the largest technical university in Italy. The Politecnico offers undergraduate, graduate and higher education courses in Engineering, Architecture and Design. The university is ranked as the 48th best technical university in the world according to QS World University Rankings. The Politecnico has several campuses in and out of Milan: MCI students attend the campus located in the Bovisa district in Milan.
